What to know before the visit.
Can I get an inspection if my check-engine light is on?
The safety inspection can still be performed, but an illuminated check-engine light fails the emissions portion. The practical route is to diagnose the light first, then complete the emissions test once the underlying problem is resolved. Call and describe what the vehicle is doing, and we will tell you which visit to book.
How long does an inspection take?
A straightforward safety and emissions inspection is normally a short visit. It takes longer when something fails and you want the repair handled during the same appointment. Tell us your timing when you book and we will be honest about what fits.
Do you have to repair anything you find?
No. A failed item has to be repaired before the vehicle can pass, but you decide whether EXA does that work. You will get the written estimate either way, and you are free to take it elsewhere.
My sticker expired last month. Is that a problem?
Bring the vehicle in. An expired sticker is a common reason people book, and it does not change how the inspection is performed. Driving on an expired sticker is a separate matter between you and law enforcement, so sooner is better.
Do you inspect vehicles bought from a private seller?
Yes. Bring the current registration, insurance, and sale paperwork. If you are still deciding whether to buy, choose a pre-purchase inspection for a broader condition assessment. The two services answer different questions.
