What this service involves.
A trouble code is a starting point, not an answer
A trouble code identifies what a system detected. The underlying cause may be a component, wiring, a leak, or a related fault. EXA uses the code alongside live data and testing to explain the repair recommendation.
Solid light or flashing light
Tell the shop whether the check-engine light is steady or flashing, and whether the vehicle runs differently. A flashing light needs prompt attention. If the light flashes or the vehicle feels unsafe, call before driving further.
What helps the diagnosis go faster
Describe when it happens: on a cold start, after warming up, at a particular speed, or under load. Include recent repairs and whether the symptom is repeatable. Intermittent faults may need more time to reproduce; these details help the shop plan the visit.

What to know before the visit.
Does a check-engine light identify the failed part?
Not by itself. The stored information helps guide testing, but the underlying cause still needs to be diagnosed. Two vehicles with the same code can need entirely different repairs.
Can I send a photo of the warning light?
Use the Text option to start a message. Please do not drive a vehicle that feels unsafe; call the shop if you are uncertain.
A parts store read my code for free. Why is diagnosis different?
A free code read tells you which code is stored. Diagnosis is the testing that determines why it is stored — checking the circuit, the component, and the conditions that set it. The first is a starting point; the second is what prevents replacing a part that was never the problem.
Will the light go off after the repair?
Once the cause is corrected the light is cleared, and the vehicle needs to complete its drive cycles for readiness monitors to report again. That matters particularly if an emissions test is coming up, and we will tell you what to expect.
Can you diagnose a problem that only happens sometimes?
Yes, though intermittent faults take more time because the condition has to be reproduced or captured. Tell us exactly when it occurs. If the fault cannot be reproduced during the visit, you will be told that plainly rather than sold a repair on a guess.
