Pre-Purchase Vehicle Inspection
A state inspection sticker, history report, recall lookup, and seller description each answer a different question. EXA’s in-shop pre-purchase inspection combines a supported computer scan with a limited, non-destructive mechanical and visual assessment of the vehicle’s observable condition at the time of the visit. The buyer receives dated written findings organized by priority. It is not a warranty, not an appraisal, not a title verification, not an odometer verification, and not an official Pennsylvania safety or emissions inspection.

What this service involves.
What the inspection is designed to cover
The assessment can document warning lights, cold-start behavior when a cold vehicle is available, visible fluid condition and leaks, belts and hoses, battery and charging observations, tires, brakes, steering, suspension, wheel bearings, driveline, exhaust, underbody corrosion, and visible structural or prior-repair indicators. Accessible control modules can be scanned for codes, readiness information, freeze-frame data, and relevant live data. Lights, glass, wipers, heating, air conditioning, and commonly used electrical features can also be checked within the agreed visit.
What the written findings mean
The report records what was checked, what could not be checked, measurements or scan observations available during the visit, and concerns grouped by practical priority. It describes the vehicle as observed at that time; it does not predict every future failure or determine market value. If the buyer requests repair pricing, estimates are prepared separately so the condition report remains distinct from authorization for repair work.
What this service does not replace
A pre-purchase inspection does not establish ownership, authenticate a title, verify displayed mileage, determine collision-history completeness, or replace a manufacturer or government recall search. It is also different from Pennsylvania safety and emissions inspection, which applies the Commonwealth’s defined standards. A buyer should evaluate the paperwork, recall status, seller representations, and EXA’s observed-condition findings as separate evidence.

What to know before the visit.
Does a pre-purchase inspection mean the vehicle will not need repairs later?
No. The report describes observable conditions and accessible system data at the time of a non-destructive inspection. Intermittent, concealed, disassembled, future, or otherwise inaccessible conditions may not be present or discoverable during the visit.
Will EXA clear codes or reset readiness monitors during this inspection?
No clearing or programming is part of the inspection. Stored information and readiness status can be useful evidence for the buyer, so the service records supported scan findings without intentionally erasing them.
Is a road test always included in the pre-purchase visit?
A road test is performed only when the vehicle is safe, legal, insured, available, and authorized by the seller or responsible party. If it cannot be performed, that limitation is recorded in the written findings rather than treated as completed.
Is this the same as a Pennsylvania safety and emissions inspection?
No. A pre-purchase inspection is a buyer-focused condition assessment, while the state inspection applies defined legal standards. A current sticker does not provide the broader condition report, and the pre-purchase service does not issue or replace a state inspection result.
